Getting the right lighting set-up for your sauna makes a huge difference to the overall experience. This is especially true if you have a home sauna and use it in the evenings. Thankfully Leisurequip have a myriad of practical and aesthetic lighting options that will create the perfect ambience.

Types of high temp waterproof sauna lights

There are many types of lighting options for saunas. Each has its own characteristics and considerations. We would suggest you spend a little time considering your lighting options before you go ahead and buy. Here are a few pointers:

  • Traditional lights: Usually heat-resistant, they can withstand the high temperatures and humidity present in a sauna. Traditional sauna lights are often equipped with special plastic or wood covers. The covers or shades protect the bulbs and soften the lighting.
  • LED lights: Increasingly popular in saunas, LED lights are energy efficient and low heat. They are available in various designs such as LED strips or spotlights. What’s more, with a myriad of RGBW colour options you can create a myriad of ambiances inside your sauna.
  • Fibre optic sauna lighting: Fibre optic systems use strands of flexible, light-transmitting fibres to distribute light throughout the sauna. This option offers a unique and mesmerising lighting effect. Notably, the absence of electricity in the sauna area provides an extra level of safety.
  • Wall-mounted lights: Wall-mounted fixtures are lights attached to the walls of the sauna. They are hooked up to the mains and can be installed in various positions to illuminate different areas of the sauna.
  • Ceiling lights: Installed into the ceiling of the sauna, these can be spotlights, LED or fibre optics. They ensure even distribution of light throughout the sauna room. You can even install a starry sky that changes on command.

What makes sauna lights different to regular lights?

Lights designed for use in saunas differ from other lights in several ways due to the unique environment, operational and safety requirements of a sauna.

  • Heat resistance: Sauna lights are designed to withstand high temperatures and humidity levels that are typical in saunas. Regular lights may not be able to handle such extreme conditions without malfunctioning or posing safety risks.
  • Materials: Often they are made from materials that can withstand the heat and moisture present in saunas. This can be heat-resistant plastics, stainless steel, or other non-corrosive materials.
  • Low-heat emission: Sauna lights are designed to emit minimal heat to avoid adding excessive warmth to the already hot sauna environment.
  • Safety regulations: Lights used in saunas are subject to a myriad of safety regulations. They need to comply with certain standards to ensure the safety of sauna users.
  • Waterproofing: The lights often have additional waterproofing measures to protect against moisture and humidity. Regular lights may not have the same level of waterproofing needed for a sauna environment.
